In yet another initiative towards strengthening community policing, Delhi Police Commissioner Shri Rakesh Asthana inaugurated “Sangam Community Education Centre” in Bindapur Police station in Dwarka District on Tuesday, 5 April 2022.

The Education Centre comprises a state –of –the art Computer lab and a well stocked library to assist students preparing for competitive exams. The Computer lab is equipped with 24 Desktop computers, high speed internet and a large interactive panel to facilitate communication with experts and students outside the classroom.

The students will be offered certificate and diploma courses up to 6 months duration, and cover Basic Computer Concepts, Computer Applications and Computerized Financial Accounting. Initially, 40-50 students will be trained in 2 batches and one more batch will be added over the next few months.

According to Shri Asthana, such libraries and education centres function as important facilitators of community policing by promoting partnerships between law-enforcement agencies and the local communities. Furthermore, such initiatives help disadvantaged youth in moving away from crime and deviance and towards a productive and meaning life. Delhi Police will further expand such initiative to all police stations in Delhi. The CP further added that this initiative of Sangam Trust will be institutionalized by integrating with existing programs of Delhi Police to ensure continuity and further consolidation of positive impact.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kuldeep Kumar, Chairman said that the Community Education Centre has been fully funded by Sangam Trust to help students access quality education free of cost. The focus groups will include students from economically weaker sections, including juveniles and victims of crime and girl students.

The Sangam Trust has been founded by Shri Kuldeep Kumar, IPS (retd) in loving memory of his wife Mrs. Sangita Mehta who succumbed to Covid in May 2021.
