Our Origin

This Trust is established in the loving memory of Mrs. Sangita Mehta who breathed her last on 28 May 2021 after a month-long battle with Covid in a hospital ICU at Dwarka, Delhi. She was married to Mr. Kuldeep Kumar in 1987 and blessed with two sons Dushyant (born 1988) and Angad (born 1997). She was an M.A. in Economics and B.Ed. She was a committed educator, and as PGT Economics and later Vice-Principal she moulded students for over two decades across many institutions in Delhi. She was a part of institutions such as AFBBS, Lodhi Road, St. Paul’s School, Hauz Khas and Delhi School of Economics (DSE), among others.
She was a pure and powerful soul full of love, joy and practical wisdom. During her short life she played all her parts to perfection - a devoted wife and mother, a passionate teacher, a generous colleague and a loyal friend. She had a daring “Can do” attitude coupled with enormous reserves of emotional and spiritual strength and faced life’s many challenges with equanimity and fortitude. Compassionate by nature, she helped many poor students from various orphanages and blind schools.
Sangita was an all-rounder and besides excelling in academics, she was proficient in cooking, sewing, embroidery and knitting. She was trained in vocal music and actively participated in youth festivals, debates, declamation, quiz competitions and table tennis tournaments. In recognition of her all –round excellence, she was elected “Miss Department of Economics” in Punjabi University (1986-87). She also served as President, Social Sciences & Member, Literary Circle of M.M. Modi College, Patiala (1983-84).
She was hardworking, a keen observer and learner throughout her life. She took great interest in decorating her home and designed her own dresses, wooden furniture and home interiors. She was sensuous and loved fresh flowers, good music, earthy smells and rich colours. She was a foodie, traveled extensively within India and abroad and was particularly fond of her fabulous collection of sarees.
She was associated with several initiatives for women empowerment and community service. As Secretary, Women Welfare Society, Tripura (2000-2003), Sangita was instrumental in implementation of several development and poverty alleviation schemes in insurgency affected tribal villages. In recognition of her outstanding contribution, she was awarded “Certificate of Appreciation” by Her Excellency, The Lady Governor of Tripura. In subsequent years, she took keen interest in the initiatives of Rotary International as Teacher-in-Charge of Interact Club to develop youth leadership and community service. She was awarded Certificate of Appreciation for “Outstanding and Dedicated service” by Rotary Club of Delhi Midwest many times.
This Trust is an effort to carry forward her legacy and create excellence in education and economic development to build capacities of the general public for sustainable development.
